"I am so apprectiative that you availed yourself to these little brown girls. From day to day images of what is beautiful to the negative images of our neighborhoods; it is neccesary for a positive experience like this. I thank God for you and the vision He birthed in you. Most importantly, your obediance to act upon that vision.  [My daughter] couldn't stop talking when we picked her up and we so enjoyed reliving her experience. ;0) Please express to [Miss] Alley and [Miss] Coco how much we appreciate them as well!!!!!!  I can't wait for the next adventure.  I know we did the right thing by making this sacrifice [to send our daughter to CampCaribe]. Developing relationships (lasting friendships) are so important. To be able to make friends from all parts of the country is so awesome."

If your Adventurer is going to miss a few days of school due to the length of this 10 day trip,
perhaps she can still go to CampCaribe!
Nicolette (as well as a few other campers) signed a Homework Contract
and commited to 1 hour of homework per day.

As Executive Director of CampCaribe, OBG Adventure Camps' premiere travel & learning adventure excursion to the US Virgin Islands, I am honored and delighted to present to you CampCaribe's first ever (!) group of Adventurers and staff, a fabulous group that will pave the way and create the benchmark for all of the Adventurers and staff that follow in their footsteps in the years to come.  If you know anything about me at all, you know that I believe there is something unique and powerful about being first, and this journey is no exception.  Kudos to the parents of these Adventurers, for they are visionaries and Adventurers themselves and have worked hard and often even sacrificed for the growth of their children.  Look out world, because here they come!

Dreams Really Do Come True

I won't bore you with the details (they're all spelled out on the Oprah Angel Network Web site and here on this blog), but I'm here to tell you that dreams really do come true.  Yesterday, I was finally able to firm up the 8 Adventurers that will travel with me and my brilliant staff to the US Virgin Islands over Easter break (in less than 5 weeks!) for the first session of CampCaribe, a travel and learning adventure camp for diverse tween girls. (There's even a waiting list!)  Wow.  This project has been on my mind and more importantly in my heart for many, many years and I'm delighted that the time has finally come. Please. Whatever it is that you dream of, don't ever stop. Dreams really do come true. ;-)  "...and the dreams that we dare to dream really do come true." -Judy Garland, Over the Rainbow

Being First

I think there is something terribly cool about being first.  Being first means you're a leader.  Being first means you're brave.  Being first means you have vision.  And being first means you're a pioneer and a trailblazer; something you have in common with great people in history.  Being first takes guts.
This is the first year (of many) for CampCaribe, a travel and learning adventure program whose mission is to shift the thinking of our youth so that they see the world in a new way...from a global perspective.  After all, the world is certainly bigger than our own backyard, dontchathink?  The young Adventurers that embark on this amazing journey will experience travel, culture, the environment and exciting water activities and I feel confident saying that these girls will be changed forever.  I am fiercly proud to be a part of that growth.  The Idea for CampCaribe can be found on Oprah's Angel Network.
There are a few partial scholarship opportunities for girls (ages 12-14) for this coming Spring 2010 session to the US Virgin Islands, so if you like the idea of being first and being a part of the success story that we plan to report to Oprah's Angel Network, shoot an email (with contact info) to Tracey@CampCaribe.com.  Time is of the essence. =)
Isn't it exciting to know the angels are watching?  Less than 6 weeks to goooooooooo...
With dedication, commitment & love for our kids...

Less Than 90 Days To Go!

I am so excited I can't stand it.  Camp is coming, camp is coming!  And it's less than 90 days away.  Yipppeeeeeeee!  Alley, Coco and I are hip deep in preparing for this unique learning adventure program and Alley and I will be traveling to Denver in mid-February to the American Camp Association National Conference to get even more inspired (if that's even possible).  Sailing, sea kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, arts & crafts, environmental appreciation and cultural exploration make up some of the exciting CampCaribe curriculum.  Self-esteem workshops around the campfire, local school visits, volleyball, ethnic dance and a lot of giggling will round it all out.  I am so excited for our first group of girls and what they'll learn.  There is nothing better than empowering a child and trying to create balance where there is none.  Every child should be given the gift of a tropical sunset.  I can't wait.
With commitment, dedication & love,
